Ships

SHIPS The steel sculptural ships in this collection relate to Chile's maritime territory, Valparaíso and the South Pacific, Cape Horn, Antarctica; they also connect to Lord Cochrane (Southern Cross), Shackleton (Endurance and the James Caird), Arturo Prat (La Esmeralda), and to Verne, Salgari, Gabriela Mistral, Pablo Neruda, D. H. Lawrence, and Melville: the Nautilus, El Rayo, "Daughter of the Will of the Sea," the Pequod, "The Ship of Death," and, with Ferdinand Magellan, the Nao Victoria. All of these ships sailed by night beneath the Southern Cross.
